Abstract
Objective: This study is to investigate gender differences in the interaction effect of unemployment and problematic drinking on depression.

Methods: The employment status, AUDIT, and CES-D by gender of the youth group aged 19 to 34(N=2,173; m=998, f=1,175) derived from the 12th Wave data of the Korea Welfare Panel(2017) were analyzed by using hierarchical multiple regression analysis.

Results: While there was no statistical gender difference in employment status, there found higher problematic drinking in male and higher level of depression in female. Controlling for the socio-demographic variables, the single effect of unemployment and the interaction effect of unemployment and problematic drinking on depression were found only in female, while problematic drinking increased depression in both genders.

Conclusion: The interaction effect of problem drinking on depression depending on employment status was found only in female. It is suggested that employment status and gender difference need to be considered in the relationship between drinking behavior and depression.
